In the course you learn:

  • Learn what angles you can use intentionally

  • Understand what discs are good for forehand throws

  • Deepen the knowledge of a forehand drive

  • Build trust and confidence through practicing various shots

  • Find new ways to be creative

This course is your gateway to understanding how elite players truly control the forehand throw.

Guided by Disc Golf Hall of Famer Avery Jenkins, you’ll learn advanced forehand shot shaping with a wide range of discs and discover how top professionals manipulate flight to attack even the toughest fairways with confidence.

Disc golf is unique among sports. No other game requires you to control an object that changes direction mid-flight based on angle, speed, spin, and stability. In this course, you’ll learn why discs fly the way they do and how to use that knowledge to your advantage in the course.

This is more than learning forehand mechanics. You’ll develop the ability to intentionally shape lines, control trajectories, and unlock shots that most players never even consider.

From hyzers and turnovers to flex shots, Avery breaks down the technique, timing, and decision-making behind high-level forehand play.

A key theme throughout the course is patience and repetition. True shot shaping is built through fieldwork, trust in your discs, and learning how different angles affect flight.

As your understanding grows, the course itself starts to look different. Tight gaps become opportunities, and difficult fairways become manageable.

If you’re ready to put in the work, this course will completely change the way you see the forehand game.

We start the course with drivers and the Hyzer to Flat throw. These driver slots are from speeds 9-15, and depending on the shot shape, you'll find the rest of the flight numbers changing accordingly. Avery also speaks about the discs and why you should be in the field to study your discs and your throw.

We start exploring the midranges from hyzer to flat flight. The midranges typically are speed 4-6, so as the name implies, they fly to midrange distances with precision. They fly slower so they don't require as much lateral space as the drivers do.

Course Teacher

Avery Jenkins (#7495) is the 2009 Disc Golf World Champion and a Disc Golf Hall of Famer, class of 2025. Avery has taught thousands of people all over the world and is arguably one of the most influential professionals in disc golf.

Avery Jenkins

The absolute disc golf mastery requires you to understand these shots for the forehand. You may throw the basic angles for the rest of your life, but gaining extra distance with the same effort you make right now comes from understanding your disc selection and learning how to throw them at a different angle. This course is for those people who wish to go the extra mile to learn how to get everything out from their discs and widen the perspective on what kind of shots are available on your day to day game.

Our instructor, Avery Jenkins, the 2009 World Champion and a member of the Disc Golf Hall of Fame, will tell you how to learn all of the angles and trajectories, what kind of discs you should use, and what the common mistakes are when looking for that specific type of flight path.

We will go through all of the backhand shots with all of the discs, or at least those that make sense. First, we get from one angle change, which means that the disc is thrown at one angle, and the disc will either turn, for example from hyzer to flat, or fade like an anhyzer to fade -type of shot. Then we will progress to multiple angle changes, S-curves, hyzer flips etc. When we have gone through all of the shots, you will have a great understanding of what a disc can do to open up your imagination.

Remember that this knowledge by itself doesn’t make you a professional. You need to go to the field and experiment, learn your discs and improve your consistency. When we are throwing a line that leaves your hand on a hyzer angle, stands up and flies forward, then turns over and maybe comes back to fade, there are so many small details that can result in a complete miss on a course. But if you are willing to put in the hours and effort, you will gain the most important shots in your arsenal that will bring your game to the next level.
